U.S. Methane Emissions Are Much Higher than Expected
A study published in the latest issue of PNAS finds U.S. methane emissions are 11/2 times greater than current EPA estimates. “Most strikingly, our results are higher by a factor of 2.7 over the South Central United States, [a key region] for fossil-fuel extraction and refining” said Harvard researcher Scot Miller, lead author of the study. I read this earlier. It basically says methane emissions are higher in Texas, Kansas, and other states with large cattle operations. Mostly because of diet and waste collection ponds being perfect for anaerobic digestion.
Also, the University of Alaska Fairbanks just released a report that says Arctic methane release has doubled. Both on land and in the ocean. Yesterday 12:22pm
